Exciting Future as Program of Momentum

For decades, medical care has been fragmented. We had separate doctors and specialists for various conditions, with little to no communication between them. The medical industry has been working to change this recently, realizing that a more integrated approach is critical to a patient’s well-being.

Integrated care is extra essential to treating behavioral health issues. Organizations like Parisi House and Momentum for Health have long understood that one behavioral health challenge can affect many areas of a client’s life. At Parisi House, over half of our moms also suffer from mental health disorders. If left untreated, these disorders can lead to triggers that increase the chances of addiction relapse in the future. Despite witnessing the challenges of siloed care, our staff has always worked hard to ensure that we connect our dually-diagnosed mothers with outside resources. These additional services have often included mental health treatment through programs at Momentum.

Dave Mineta’s soft spot for women’s treatment began in the White House. As Deputy Director for Demand Reduction for the Office of National Drug Control Policy, he would visit drug and alcohol treatment facilities, speak to women, and meet some of their children. He saw firsthand how these programs were changing families’ lives and made a point to look out for these facilities while he was in Washington, DC. As CEO of Momentum for Health, he has spearheaded efforts to start adding more Substance Use Disorder treatment to their repertoire of services. It was a no-brainer to him when Parisi House board members and executive director Pat Mitchell reached out about joining forces. Helping moms and their families break the cycle of addiction was already a cause that spoke to his heart.

We are looking forward to the next chapter as a program of Momentum. Coming under the Momentum umbrella will allow our clients to easily access the additional resources they need and enable Momentum moms to access treatment in an environment that will also support their children. As both organizations have seen, keeping families together is critical to achieving long-term recovery. Joining forces with an organization with equal passion for helping mothers and their children rebuild their lives is a no-brainer for Parisi House, too. As we look toward the future, we know that this union will further improve the lives of mothers, children, and their families for generations to come.
