LD is ‘a Conduit’ for Good

LD Hirschklau doesn’t really like to be in the spotlight. She has quietly worked behind the scenes for more than a decade helping to improve life for the moms and kids who stay at Parisi House on the Hill. From serving on the board of directors to creating and operating the onsite lending library, LD has not only donated her own time and money, she has also connected countless supporters to Parisi House who continue to give.

She says she does it because of “what goes on here and the difference it makes in children’s lives. Addiction can sadly take hold of wonderful people. It’s just so great for women to have a chance to live a healthy life and be the parent they dreamed they would be.”

LD was introduced to Parisi House by a friend about 12 years ago after she retired from the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District, where she was a grant writer and project director for special education and risk behavior programs. Over the years, she has used her grant-writing skills to secure critical funding for Parisi House, including support for the lending library from the Myra Reinhard Family Foundation.

Two years ago, LD formed the Parisi House Women’s Auxiliary, which she chairs. The group of volunteers provide support whenever needed, including at events like the Garden Party.

LD is always thinking about ways her friends and colleagues can help. For example, about eight years ago she introduced Parisi House to the History Club of Los Gatos, which adopted the organization as a philanthropic beneficiary. The Assistance League of San Jose is another group that regularly supports Parisi House thanks to LD.

“My friends all know that sooner or later I’m going to ask them to do something for Parisi House,” she says. “They’re always happy to help because it’s such a great organization. I’m just a conduit.”
