Thanks to All Who Helped Make the Holidays Special

The pandemic has been hard on everyone, including the moms and kids who were with us over the holidays. There were no celebrations with outside organizations this year and no photos with Santa. But thanks to the many generous elves in our community – as well as our staff – there were fun festivities to brighten spirits and gifts for everyone.

The Exchange Club of San Jose dropped off presents and a special holiday meal early in December, and then MDI (Mentor – Discover – Inspire) brought more presents a few days later. Former Board Member Susan Fitts joined forces with Advisory Board Member Rosemary Tisch and former Board Member Mary Gardner of Prevention Partnership International to provide even more gifts later in the month. A present for the little ones came in the form of an outdoor play structure for toddlers courtesy of Dr. Letitia Heshmat and Mobile-Med Work Health Solutions.

Our families will be able to stay cozy and warm this winter thanks to blankets and pillows from the Assistance League of San Jose, and parishioners at St. Mary’s Church in Los Gatos helped to make the holidays special by providing gift cards for our moms and kids. Groceries donated by Therma made it possible for moms to cook Thanksgiving dinner together as well as tamales, posole and menudo on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day – a special holiday tradition for many families.

On Christmas Day, families opened their gifts under the Christmas trees they decorated earlier in the month. While there were no in-person visits this year, moms and kids were able to video chat with their loved ones on Christmas.

“The holidays were really special for our moms and kids due to the generosity of our donor community, both individuals and organizations, and the efforts of our staff,” says Parisi House Executive Director Pat Mitchell. “We’re grateful that so many people care about our families.”
